High summer and the garden is rockin’! Everything is in bloom. Over in the Western flower and herb bed things have gotten wild. It almost looks like everything there is trying to outdo the other plants. Some mad contest in which the result is a little jungle oasis in the desert.
The sunflowers have put on quite a show, but I think the borage is the clear winner. I’ve never had borage do so well in my many years here in the desert. I think it really got happy about all the shared atmosphere, moisture and shade.
Borage is a wonderful herb with many practical and magickal uses. The pretty blue, pink and white flowers are delicious in salads or as a tasty garnish for deserts.
Medicinally it’s a cooling and cleansing adaptogen with demulcent, diuretic, expectorant and anti-inflammatory properties as well as being known for treatment of PMS, ADHD, Asthma and more.
Magickally this plant spirit is tuned right in on your psychic abilities and vitality as well as being known to strengthen courage and provide protection.
A bunch of years ago (peek at the recipe copyright info if you must know how many!), I was working for The Psychic Hotline. That’s right, I flew through the witches’ hours as a phone psychic. A friend of mine was also working the lines, and we both noticed how depleted we felt after a few hours on the phone. We were both much more drained than when doing readings for folx face to face.
Well, when the going gets tough the witch gets brewing. Or something like that. We came up with this recipe and it was not only deliciously refreshing, it both amplified and refreshed our psychic energies to perfection. Those 5 hour shifts fairly flew by, and the bonus hit to my lucid dreaming was sweet, too. So here’s our recipe.
Super Psonic Psychic Tonic
- 1oz. Borage
- 1/2 oz. Lemongrass
- 1/2 oz. Spearmint
- 2 Entire Oranges
- 1 Entire Lemon
- 3 cups Ginger Ale
- 2 cups White Grape Juice
Add herbs to 5 cups of water, bring to a slow boil simmering for about 15 to 20 minutes with a TIGHT lid.
While cooling, juice oranges and lemon, peel, seeds and pulp and add to herbal infusion.
When cool, add the grape juice. Strain the entire mixture thru double cheesecloth (three times works for us!).
Hand-squeeze the pulp/herbal mixture to ensure getting every last drop.
Add the ginger ale and chill for a few hours. Enjoy!
